OTHER WORK

What’s the deal with your first show, Beyond the Break?

OLIVIA MUNN: I heard about this show from a girl in acting class and told my agents to get me an audition. I went in and read for the role of Kai. They asked me to audition in a bikini and there was a picture of an ocean behind me. I made it to the next round, whichwas to test for network and studio executives. I didn’t get the role of Kai because they wanted to go with a local hire fromHawaii. Instead they offered me the role of Kai’s best friend, Mily, who was a tough tomboy. On my first day of shooting, I was about to start my scene — like “Lights, camera, action”— and the director stops and asks me to do my character in a pigeon accent! Pigeon is Hawaiian slang andalso one of the toughest accents to master. So there I was, no preparation or training and just wanted to do a good job for my first day. So I have a few locals from craft service teach me really quick. It was horrible and sucked. So if you watch the show, you’ll see me doing an accent in the first scene I’m in and never again.

I hear you have extensive with balls. And by that I mean your time as a sideline reporter.

OLIVIA MUNN: I did some reporting for FOX Sports —women’s basketball. It kinda sucked. During halftime, I’d be like, “The score is 25-19…” Not super exciting. But the opportunity was amazing and I was sooo excited.

Sum up your experience on the horror film Insanitarium in 7 words or less.

OLIVIA MUNN: Really excited to be in a Sony movie and the fake blood was really sticky. Death scene really hurt because Jesse Metcalfe accidentally stomped on my foot whilehe wasshooting mytiny-sizedzombie killer.

Why dont you think you got a People’s Choice award for it?

OLIVIA MUNN: Hahahaha… It was too smart for audiences. I mean, it’s an infection that turns people into killer zombies — it’s very complex.

What about this movie coming out in 2009 — The Slammin’ Salmon?

OLIVIA MUNN: This is gonna be The Broken Lizard’s best movie since Super Troopers. It was so much fun to shoot and I got a lot of freedom to improv. I love these guys and so excited to work with them in any capacity. They are just really great people who want to make you laugh.

You’ve got a book coming out. How about a preview?

OLIVIA MUNN: One of my first boyfriend’s hadbad turrets. His turrets was to bark like adog — and he did… often.

What’s next for you?

OLIVIA MUNN: I’ll be putting a lot of time and energy into this site, I have Attack of the Show live every day and well, honestly, I don’t like to talk about the projects I’m working until their finalized. I guess I’m supersticious about that.

What kind of acting do you want to do?

OLIVIA MUNN: Anything that’s good work and entertaining.
